TRANS TONGUES

Following on from our sold out mini-journal series, we are excited to invite submissions for Trans Tongues, an anthology of trans art and writing and an accompanying art exhibition which is taking place at BRIC Gallery & Cafe in London.

This project is kindly supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Deadline: Midnight, Friday 31st July

GENERAL SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES

Trans Tongues accepts written and visual art submissions by trans and/ or non-binary artists. Please only submit if you identify as trans and/ or non-binary.

We DO accept simultaneous submissions (although please let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere). We may work editorially with you.

Thanks to Arts Council funding, we can pay £25 to each selected poetry contributor, prose contributor of less than 1500 words and art contributor/exhibitior, and £50 to prose contributors where the piece is over 1500 words. All contributors will also receive a physical copy of the anthology.

The best way to get a sense of the kind of work we love is to read one of our previous publications. You can buy copies of previous publications here.

PROSE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We accept prose submissions of up to 2500 words, across fiction and creative non-fiction, including prose poems and hybrid works. Please do not submit more than one piece to each volume, and ensure the file you submit is clearly labelled with your name and the title of the work. Please note, we DON'T accept previously published work (including work published on social media or blogs).

POETRY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

You can submit up to two poems to each volume. The book will be a B-format publication so you should consider this if your poem involves complex formatting. Please send both poems in a single document, and ensure the file you submit is clearly labelled with your name and the title/s of the work. Please note, we DON'T accept previously published work (including work published on social media or blogs).

VISUAL ART SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

You can submit up to 5 artworks. Please ensure each file is labelled with the title of the piece and your name in the file name. For the anthology, we are keen to see visual art across all mediums (painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, photography etc) that can be reproduced in print. Please ensure any photos taken of your work and submitted are of high, printable quality. For the exhibition, we are keen to see visual art that can be displayed on a wall. Unfortunately we are not able to accept large sculptures and video art for this open call.

You will have the option to submit to the anthology and/or the exhibition, but exhibitors will need to ensure they are able to get their artwork to London for the November exhibition at BRIC Gallery & Cafe. Please note, we DON'T accept previously published work (but are happy to accept visual art submissions that have been published on social media or exhibited).
